Artist's Comments

oil on paper

I assume that the majority of people would connect sorrow with blue but I disagree. In my opinion, red has much more power and with different shades, it can call out different reactions or emotions.

The black strokes with the burnt red illustrate my attempt to recreate frustration and sadness.

not necessarily, I think certain shades of red can show the pain that comes with the process of grieving, sorrow because red is an expressive color, blue is more connected with sadness, not so much with grief.... I think it's visible in this piece, it's not a 'healthy' bright and happy red, nor expressing anger, rage, it reminds me of bruises on skin, flesh, ....
the black strokes add of course to the theme that is hinted in the title...
well composed!

red is more active while blue is rather passive to me
that's why red is rather anger, and blue is rather grief (to me)
